Welcome to Class Acorn
Our first Year in school.

In September the children came into school to discover a mysterious egg that had been left in their outdoor play area. After much discussion and research we concluded that it must have been a dinosaur egg. We made sure we looked after the egg and built it a warm and safe home. We also wrote notices to put up around the egg to let people know that they should not touch it or play with it.
We set about learning more about different dinosaurs such as what they ate and what they looked like so we would know more about our dinosaur when it finally hatched.
When the children came into school on a Monday morning they found the egg broken and a baby triceratops lying in the nest. They were so excited and eager to find out more about our special dinosaur.
This term the children have become scientists in our ‘Class Acorn Science Lab’. We will be learning more about the world around us by conducting lots of fun and interesting experiments.
Each week a new science challenge will be set for the children to solve. At the start of term the children received a letter from our class Bear, ‘Barney’ asking the children if they could make him a waterproof coat as the weather is getting rather rainy! In the ‘Class Acorn Science Lab’ the children are experimenting with different materials to see which ones are waterproof and which would make a good coat to keep Barney dry.
In the summer term Class Acorn will be joining in a whole school celebration of the Olympic Games. This will be a great opportunity to explore the Olympic values and traditions through all aspects of the curriculum.
The children enjoy a wide range of independent and adult led activities in our weekly timetable. Our focus is to inspire the children by providing a range of stimulating activities to support the children’s learning across the Foundation Stage Curriculum.
The children take part in daily Communication, Language and Literacy, Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy and Phonics sessions, as well as weekly guided reading sessions. There are two P.E. lessons a week and also Creative Development, Personal, Social and Emotional development sessions.
Children also have a chance to choose independently from a range of carefully selected resources during our ‘Planning to Play’ sessions.
In Class Acorn we aim to promote a love for learning in a supportive and inspiring environment.
