The Enrichment Curriculum
A theme is explored in depth by Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 every term. The themes are taught through history, geography, literacy, science, music, drama, art and design technology. A variety of teaching styles provide the pupils with an enriched curriculum, as well as a chance to think outside the box and explore issues in imaginative ways.
These are the aims of the enrichment curriculum:
- to develop independent research skills
- for pupils to become active learners
- to promote thinking skills, such as the ‘mantle of the expert’ approach
- to explore real life issues
- to use expertise, including speakers and visits.
Themes covered include:
Key Stage 1 – The Land before time; If you go down to the woods today; Rainforest Conservation.
Key Stage 2 – a Victorian crime scene; Where in the world is Grendel hiding? Should a local street be closed to traffic?; the Galapagos Islands project.
