Year 4 – Class Rosewood
Welcome to Class Rosewood! We use this page to share our learning and to access online resources at home. One of the highlights of Year 4 is our residential visit to the Grafham Water Centre – we can’t wait to go! You can learn more about our learning this year on the Curriculum page.
Invaders and Settlers
This term our Enrichment theme is: Invaders and Settlers. During the unit launch, the children took on Anglo Saxon personas and participated in a variety of activities designed to illustrate life in an Anglo Saxon village. They have learned about the social structure and occupations of a tribe. As the topic progresses, the children will be learning more specifically about how the Anglo Saxons lived, their village life and the structures of their buildings. Through design and technology they will create some artefacts including jewellery and round houses. Through roleplay and research they will gain an understanding of their farming lifestyle and how problems and disputes were generally solved both within a tribe and against their enemies. The children have recently learned about the Roman invasion of Britain so this is the next era of British history and they appreciate the chronology of the Anglo Saxon invasion. Curriculum links include recounts and non-chronological report writing; problem solving and creative thinking; Art and Art and Design, and finally computer skills for research and safe use of the internet.
