Parent Survey
Thank you to all parents who completed our survey earlier this term, We have now collated and analysed the responses. There was some very positive feedback on how we are doing as a school in meeting the educational and social and emotional needs of your children. We also asked for suggestions as to how we could improve and we have considered these carefully. We have put all of these together in a document, which includes a table of the responses to questions asked, your suggestions/comments and our response as well as a summary of general praise points. This document can be accessed on the website under the Key Information tab, or by clicking here.
Fun Fair for Ukraine
Flora's funfair was a great success thanks to the inspiration from Flora and the hard work and creativity of stallholders Anna, Eliza, Grace, Millie, Molly, Ned, Seb, WIlliam and Imogen. There were generous donations from Caxton Church collection and Caxton playgroup, bakers donating delicious cakes and extra cake sales by Elynn and great support from the community. Money raised on the day totalled £371.75 and more is still coming in!
School fundraising for Ukraine - update
With our non-uniform day and the enormous cake sale last Friday, children, families and staff raised an amazing £600 which will be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee. Children from our school have raised £1,000! Thank you for all your support!
Year 5 Road Safety Patrol
This week Ellie, Grace and Eliza have been on duty. This week, you may have noticed them holding up banners (designed by Year 5 children) reminding everyone to drive slowly and showing the safest place to cross the road safely.
Ethedreda Project - Ely Cathedral
Children in Key Stage 2 have been taking part in the Etheldreda Tapestry Project, run by Ely Cathedral. The aim of the project is for schools to design one of 12 wall hangings that tell the story of St Etheldreda. Children joined online lessons about her and how she came to found the monastery in Ely. Miss Nutland led the project to create one of the scenes of Etheldreda's life, using collaging techniques. Children from each KS2 class helped design and make our entry over many lunchtimes. I think you will agree that our entry is stunning! It shows Etheldreda in her former life as a princess and then in her life as a nun.
Celebrations!
Headteacher's Award for Exemplifying Bourn Values
The following children have been awarded a special Headteacher's Award for their fundraising efforts for Ukraine. They showed our school values of Friendship and Justice - seeing something that is not right and doing something about it, acting in friendship to help our fellow humans in other parts of the world. We are very proud of you!
Flora, Ellie, Anna, Eliza, Seb, Millie, Molly, Grace, Ned, William, Elynn and Imogen.

Onjali Q Rauf meets Rosewood Class
Rosewood Class have been extremely excited this week as they met one of their favourite authors, Onjali Q Rauf online. She talked to them about her book, 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' (which the children have read in class), her writing and told them lots of information about refugees. The children had prepared questions to ask her and she was really impressed with the quality of the questions! (The links above are to an article about the author, and to a review of the book.)
Ramadan Mubarak!
Ramadan starts this year on Saturday 2 April. For Muslims, the month celebration commemorates Allah (the Arabic name for God), giving the first verses of the Quran, the Muslim holy book, to the prophet Muhammad in 610 AD.
Ramadan is a month of spiritual dedication and personal growth. It is intended to strengthen Muslims’ relationship with God. Almost all Muslims try to give up bad habits during Ramadan. It is a time for prayer and good deeds. They will try to spend time with family and friends and help people in need.
You can find more information about Ramadan here.
Happy Ramadan to those who celebrate.
Friday Assemblies
Parents are invited to attend our outdoor Friday Celebration Assemblies after Easter. We will close the school gates as normal at 8.50am, and will re-open them at 9am for parents coming to assembly. There will be Year 6 children at the top of the drive with sign-in sheets and they will direct you to where parents will stand.
*Please note that these may need to be cancelled at short notice depending on the weather. Even light rain will mean we can't have instruments outside. Thank you for your understanding.*

If you have a concern
From time to time, there may be something you are worried about in relation to your child, their learning or their interaction with other children. If you have any concerns, please contact your child's class teacher to discuss this. Their email addresses are on the Our Staff page of the website.
Absence Reporting
If your child is absent from school for any reason, please email absencereporting@bourn.cambs.sch.uk.
Please remember to cancel any pre- ordered lunches if your child is off sick or you may be charged by Aspens for it.
NO NUTS & SESAME SEEDS IN SCHOOL
We have children in school with severe allergies to the following items: peanuts, sesame, soya, hazelnuts, cobnuts, almonds, pistachio, cashew, walnuts and tahini (key ingredient in hummus). Please avoid bringing in items that have these ingredients.
Please do check any cereal bars to make sure they don't contain traces of these products. We have a child in school who has had extremely severe reactions and we want to all we can to avoid this happening in school. Thank you for your support.
Easter Lunch Today
The kitchen have had to find additional food today for 29 children for whom an Easter lunch had not been booked. Of course we could not see them without lunch, but unfortunately, this has inevitably meant that portion sizes have been smaller for all children, so that there was enough food to go round. Please remember to book lunches in advance with Aspens.
Year 6 Geography Field Work
Year 6 have been studying weather in Geography this half term and visited Bourn Brook on Wednesday to take measurements of its depth. Local residents will know that at times, the height of the Brook makes the ford completely impassable even for snorkel equipped vehicles. Luckily, the Brook was shallow enough for wellies and no snorkels were required!
BSA Easter Egg Hunt
All the children took part in a fantastic Easter Egg hunt yesterday - made even more egg-citing by the snow showers! They looked for clues in the Nature Reserve and cracked the codes to reveal Easter messages and earn them their egg! Thank you to Mimi, Charles and Linda for organising this and for braving the freezing cold all morning!
Easter Assembly in Church
For the first time in over 2 years, we have been able to visit the Church in Bourn to have our Easter assembly. For many of the children it was their first visit to the church with the school. Thanks to Reverend Stephen for leading the assembly.
The orchestra played hymns and then stayed on to play for Little Hands afterwards.

Ukraine Fundraising
Today was our fundraising for Ukraine day. Children and adults wore blue and yellow and we had an enormous cake sale to raise more money. Thank you to everyone who baked and bought cakes and biscuits and donated so generously. Thank you to the School Council, Ellie and Year 6 children who organised this and to the members of the BSA who helped them on the stall.
Fun Fair for Ukraine
This Mother's Day, stop by the fun fair at the Caxton Village Hall from 1-4pm to raise money for Ukraine. Organised by Flora and her friends who wanted to help and all proceeds will go to the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee).
Year 5 Road Safety Patrol
This week Karl, Lucy and Ellie have been on duty. This week, they have put up posters designed by Year 5 children reminding everyone to drive slowly and cross safely. They are now also holding signs showing the best place to cross and reminding drivers that the speed limit is 20mph. They are making a great contribution to keeping the roads around school as safe as possible.
Science Week
The theme of Science Week was growth. Children learned about all different types of growth from plants, bodies, and even brains and mindsets! The focus was on plants and children learned all about the different parts of the plant - here are year 5 children dissecting daffodils.
Mother's Day Gift Shop
Thanks to the BSA for organising another successful Mother's Day Gift Shop. The children really enjoyed choosing their presents and (hopefully) will keep their gift a secret until Sunday!
Open Classrooms
Although virtual parent consultations have proved very successful, the down side is that you don't get to see your child's work, so, once a half term, we will once again hold Open Classroom sessions. These will begin next half term and will run from 2.30pm until 3pm on the last Wednesday of each half term.
This will be an opportunity to go to your child/ren's classroom and sit with them as they show you their work.
We will still need to be Covid responsive, so if there is an outbreak in the school, or in a particular class, this may need to be postponed.
Celebrations!
The following children have been presented with the Values Awards and the Award for Working Hard. More details are on the Class Pages every week.
Acorn: Gus, Lilly, Alfred and Alexander
Willow: Poppy, Zahra, Rory and Felix
Hazel: Cameron, Locke, Elynn and Isaac
Cedar: Olivia, Tilly, Zach and Maddy
Rosewood: Jack, Tom, Alex and Layla
Cherry: Declan, Isabel, Ellie and Jacob

Miniature House Renovation
This is an unusual request... One day last Summer, the Phonics Fairy visited Mrs Tagger and Mrs Balls after school. She brought with her a very old doll's house and asked whether we could renovate two of the rooms and then she would collect it to take to other schools to complete the other rooms. We have decorated our two rooms and were waiting for her to collect it. The Phonics Fairy has just sent us a fairymail to say that she has given us the dolls house to keep....
We were wondering whether there is a parent or grandparent who would be interested in taking on part of this renovation? If so, please email office@bourn.cambs.sch.uk

Computer Xplorers
This week, thanks to a generous donation from one of our families, each class has been able to take part in a Computer Xplorer workshop. Children learned different way of programming and making lego models work. This was a really exciting opportunity for the children to learn new skills and apply them.
BSA 5p Challenge
After many weeks of collecting 5 pence coins, the bottles were collected and the coins counted. In total, around £500 was collected to raise much needed funds for the school. Well done to Hazel Class who were runners up and win a £10 book voucher for their class. The class that raised the most money was Cedar! They have earned themselves a non-uniform day next Friday as well as a £10 book token! Well done and thank you to everyone for sparing your coins!
Friday Assemblies - Summer Term
We are delighted that we will be able to start inviting parents to attend our Friday Community Assemblies again after Easter!
Given that Covid is definitely still with us, these assemblies will be held outside on the front playground, so we can have as many people joining us as possible.
However, this will be weather dependent. The orchestra will be playing, so if there is any hint of rain, we won't be able to be outside as there is a risk of water damage to instruments and the speakers.
Hopefully the sun will shine, but please be prepared for this not to take place at short notice.

School Council - Ukraine
The School Council have decided that Friday 25 March will be the Ukraine fundraising day.
They have asked that everyone comes into school wearing yellow and/or blue clothes and bring in £1 or more which will be donated to the Red Cross.
The children will also run a Cake Sale on Friday - please bring in cakes/biscuits etc on Friday morning and lots of change to buy cakes after school.
Please ensure that what you bring contains no peanuts, sesame, soya, hazelnuts, cobnuts, pistachio, almonds, cashew, walnuts and tahini. If you bring dairy or gluten free options, it would be great if these could be labelled.
I'd like to thank Ellie and the School council for organising these ideas.

Year 5 Road Safety Patrol
This week Molly, Isabel and Karl have been on duty. This week, they were concerned to see parents parking on zig zag lines, which is a problem because it makes it difficult for children crossing to see properly. They are seeing more and more children looking carefully when they cross the road.
GenR8
This week GenR8 came into school to do their Easter assembly. They really enjoyed visiting our school and said that the children were so engaged and enthusiastic! They have sent through reflection and Easer activity ideas which can be accessed here.
Happy Holi
Happy Holi to those who celebrate this Hindu festival of spring, love and new life. You can find out more here.
Celebrations!
We have now replaced the Presentation Award with an Award for Working Hard. Working hard is the most important thing any child can do in order to succeed and this is why we promote this so much throughout school.

Acorn: Rudy, Finn, Georgie and Anton
Willow: Rafferty, William D, Imogen C and Archie
Hazel: Shrirang, Charlotte, Sam B and Yasmin
Cedar: Nualla, Krisha, Tristan and Finley

Wish-Cycling
The Green Team have been busy again! They have made a presentation for children in all classes to watch about 'wish-cycling'. This is taken from their presentation, but if you would like to see the whole thing - click here!
Have you ever wondered whether you should recycle an item or not?
Have you ever recycled an item that is dirty in any way thinking it’ll still be recycled? Or put bread bags and crisp packets in the general recycling thinking they’ll be recycled?
…..If yes, then you could be a wish-cycler. You’re keen to recycle and do your bit to save the planet, but confused about how to recycle properly.

Important Message from a Pupil in Year 6
Hi my name is Joel, I am in year 6 and have biked to school for the past 3 years.
When I cycle to school on the road, I often see people in cars not looking and just assuming it’s clear, or looking a tiny bit but not stopping. I think this will end up with someone being hurt. This is why you should always look when driving, especially at junctions, and never assume it’s clear, even if it’s a quiet road. Thanks.
Covid Update
Covid continues to be an issue in the local area and there has been a sizable increase in the cases in local schools. When we have over 10% of a class off with Covid, we notify the Local Authority. This has been the case with one of our classes, and we have followed Local Authority advice to 'ring-fence' the class whilst indoors. This means that they do not mix with children from other classes indoors, eg in assembly. So far, despite high numbers in this class, this has prevented the spread to other classes. We continue to monitor the position closely and will respond appropriately.

Ukraine
Many children are aware of the conflict in Ukraine and we have responded to their questions as they are asked.
The following links are to resources which will help guide you on how to talk to your children in an age appropriate way, and in a way that answers their questions without giving too much detail.
One of the key pieces of advice is to control the amount of information children are exposed to - even if it doesn't look like they are listening.
Try not to let your children experience the news without you. That includes letting the TV or audio play in the background.
- British Psychological Society - Supporting children to manage anxiety over war, conflict and crises

School Council - Ukraine
The School Council are very keen to take action to raise money to help support people in Ukraine. They are joined by Ellie in Cherry Class who has written to me about this issue, saying, 'I can not just sit here, I need to be the change'.
We are very proud of our children for having the courage to take action when they see injustice in the world.
The School Council met yesterday and have had a number of ideas about how they would like to raise money to send to charities supporting people in Ukraine. They will soon be sharing more information about how they plan to raise money for this excellent cause.

World Book Day
Yesterday was World Book Day and we celebrated books, stories, characters and reading! Children and adults dressed up in costumes, or cosy clothes and took part in book related activities throughout the day. Some people took their role very seriously and remained in character all day... mentioning no names, but their alter egos are below!
Miss Ivory also set up a fabulous book trail and other activities in the Nature Reserve which all the children absolutely loved. Have a look at the Photo Gallery here for more photos!

We really want to be able to provide childcare both before and after school. Kids Club (who run the after school care) sent out a survey recently to gauge interest in a Breakfast Club, to run from 7.45am. At the moment, there is not enough interest to make this viable. If you haven't completed the survey - please do so. We will send it out again today.

Covid Update
Further guidance for schools was released yesterday. An important area is the removal of the legal requirement to self-isolate following a positive test.
Whilst this is no longer a legal requirement, we are anticipating that parents and staff will want to work together to ensure that we reduce the likelihood of further spread of Covid in our school.
Therefore, we are asking that adults and children who test positive will stay at home and avoid contact with other people for at least 5 full days and continue to do this until they have received 2 negative test results on 2 consecutive days.
There are further details in a separate email which will be sent today.
World Book Day
Next Thursday 3 March is World Book Day! We are asking children to come to school either wearing cosy clothes that they would wear to snuggle up with a book, or dressed a their favourite book character. There will be book related activities during the day and a chance to talk about favourite books.
Please can children bring in a favourite book from home to share on the day.
Book Bus Update
Great progress is being made on the Book Bus, with the carpentry almost finished and the painting of the inside due to be finished next week. We are still looking for anyone who can help with upholstery, so if you, or someone you know could help, please contact office@bourn.cambs.sch.uk
BSA Bag Drop
The next Bag Drop will be on 11 March. This is a good fundraiser and doesn't cost us anything! Please drop off all your old clothes accessories etc at the bottom of the school drive on Friday 11 March.

Happy Half Term
Half term seems to have lasted at least 15 weeks.... but we have got there at last. Despite our best efforts, Covid got to us this term and we have had many children and staff absent each week. Thank you to parents for your understanding, I know this has been a difficult time for you too as Covid goes through one sibling at a time.
I would also like to say a huge thank you to all the staff, who have kept the school going during various staff absences, including mine this week.
Their hard work, commitment, inventiveness, flexibility, resilience and care for the children makes this a great school to be part of.
Have a great half term everyone - you deserve it! See you on Tuesday 22 February.
Book Bus Update
We are now planning the next phase of the bus renovation, and we need help with upholstery! Somehow, we need to transform these seats so they are comfortable to sit on. If you know anyone who is able to do upholstery who might be able to help us, please ask them to contact us on office@bourn.cambs.sch.uk

Bourn Green Teams
It has been wonderful to appoint a new Green Team group this half term. We now have a ‘Litter’ Team and a ‘School Grounds’ Team.
Our Litter Team are responsible for collecting the bread bags and crisp packets in school and for sorting them ready for the recycling process. They are also responsible for litter picking around the school and each year group have had a turn at using the litter picking equipment in the playground at break times. We are pleased to say our playgrounds are litter free zones. Next half term, they will be writing letters to our council about litter in local playgrounds and parks.
Our Litter Team would like to remind you that only crisp packets and bread bags should be brought into school. As we sort through the boxes, we have noticed some other packaging so we’d be grateful for your support with this.
We will be launching a felt pen recycling collection after half term so please start collecting your old plastic felt pens now!
Our School Grounds Team will be responsible for planting some small trees to replace the ones we needed to have cut down at the beginning of the year. They will help prepare the school allotment site for spring growing and will start to research the possibility of having a green roof at school. We will also be introducing indoor plants in each classroom and our new Green Team reps will be responsible for looking after these plants.
Composting in Acorn Class
Children in Acorn Class have been making compost containers out of reused plastic bottles. First we used a pin to make small holes at the bottom of the bottle. We then put in some soil, leaves, paper/cardboard, food waste and water and stirred the mixture. The compost containers sit on our windowsill where it is sunny and each day we add water and stir. Over the next few weeks we will watch the mixture turn into compost as the bacteria breaks down the waste products. The compost will be tipped onto our allotment beds ready for Spring growing.
Shackleton House Day
Shackleton House Day is on Friday 11 February. The aim of House Days is to celebrate the individuals who we have chosen to name our houses after. The House Captains have also chosen a charity to raise money for over the year - this year it is Frank Water www.frankwater.com
To recognise Shackleton's epic journeys, the House Captains are asking children to draw/map a journey they have taken (or would like to take). This could be a journey to school, to the seaside, on holiday or even one of Shackleton's expeditions!
Children should wear something red or dress as an explorer and bring in £1.00.
Hawking Day Posters
Thank you to all the children who brought in posters of different scientists - some famous, and some famous more locally. It was lovely that children recognised scientists in their own family! Well done to all the children who took part in this.
All the posters are in a gallery here.
Message from Year 5 Road Safety Monitors
Karl, Grace and Molly have been on patrol this week. They have been busy making posters and signs which will encourage everyone to look both ways when crossing the road, cross in the safest place and encourage cars to drive really slowly past the school. Look out for the signs next week!

Covid and Other Illness
We continue to have positive Covid cases in all year groups and amongst the staff. The symptoms of children who subsequently go on to test positive have been wide and varied and are not the classic 3 symptoms. These symptoms have included tummy ache, feeling sick, headache and sore throat as well as a temperature and cough.
Given the number of cases in school, we are erring on the side of caution. If a child is complaining of these symptoms we are asking parents to collect their child and to test them with a LFT. I understand that this causes inconvenience, but we are trying really hard to prevent a widescale outbreak which could result in the temporary closure of classes.
Chinese New Year
We will be celebrating Chinese New Year in school on Tuesday 1 February.
If you have any photographs or videos of your Chinese New Year celebrations, we would love to see them!
We are also inviting your child, if they would like, to wear traditional Chinese dress on that day.
Please email any photographs or videos to the office by 1 February and we will share them with all the classes.
Lunch on 1 February will be a special Chinese style meal - please book via Aspens Select.
Science Investigations!
Willow class have been investigating which material was the strongest for the three little pigs’ houses. They tried lollypop sticks, marshmallows and Lego bricks. They made predictions and then the hairdryer huffed and puffed like the wolf! In this experiment, plastic was the strongest material.

Covid Information
Despite the relaxation of Covid measures nationally, the position in schools is still very challenging. The cases in schools in Cambridgeshire have seen a sharp increase this week and the rates are the highest they have ever been since the start of the pandemic.
This is true for our school too as we currently have the highest rates of Covid absence (staff and children) we have ever had.
We continue to follow our risk reduction measures to keep your children and our staff as safe as possible. These include ventilation (and the use of CO2 monitors) and additional cleaning of classrooms and high contact areas at lunchtime. We hold staff meetings virtually and meetings with parents and other agencies are virtual wherever possible. Staff will continue to wear face coverings in communal areas, despite this no longer being a requirement.
I would also like to ask parents to continue to wear face coverings whilst on the school site.
We want to ensure that parents are as informed as possible about the current situation in school. When there is a case in a class, you will receive an email informing you. We are unable to say for sure whether your child has been a 'close contact' of a person testing positive. Whilst we know where children sit in class, they sit next to different children at lunchtimes and play with many people at lunchtime. Therefore, we send the letter out to all parents of the class.
Where we have had teachers absent, I have written to parents of that class. We will always aim to cover the class with a teacher, but this sometimes proves very challenging. There may be times where the class is supervised by Teaching Assistants for parts of the day, and this is always under the direction and supervision of a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Thank you for your ongoing support in this challenging period.
Information about when children should take a test and self isolate is on the school website here.

BSA 5p Challenge
The BSA are once again holding their famous '5p Challenge'! Each class has an empty bottle (see below) which we aim to fill with 5p coins. Every week in assembly, we will see how full each bottle is - with the class who fills their bottle first winning a non uniform day and a book token for their classroom.
It has been challenging for the BSA to run the events they would normally run, due to Covid, so they (and we) would very much appreciate as much support as possible for this fundraiser.

Hawking Day
Today was Hawking Day, where we have celebrated the lives of great scientists. Here are some of the Year 2 children dressed as scientists who inspire them. This day was organised by the House Captains of Hawking House, who also ran a competition for the best poster about scientists. Finally, thank you for your £1 donation to Frank Water, the charity chosen by the House Captains for the school to support this year.
School Lunches
If your child is absent from school and you have pre-ordered a lunch, please remember to cancel the order on the Aspens Select website.
Heating
Thank you for responding so quickly and sending your children in with extra layers on Wednesday. We are hoping the issues will be resolved early next week, but in the meantime, we sourced heaters on Wednesday morning for all the classrooms so temperatures have generally been normal in classrooms, bearing in mind we still need to open external doors and windows when the CO2 readings creep up. We will continue to allow children to wear extra layers/coats if they need, especially those who sit closest to the doors.
Sports Clubs
As you know we have introduced a small charge for the after school sports clubs run by Mr French (provided by CG Swimschool). Any children who are eligible for Free School Meals are able to attend with no charge. Please email Debs if you would like your child to attend. For other families who might find this payment difficult, please email office@bourn.cambs.sch.uk as we may be able to offer a 50% discount.
Office - Monday afternoon
Due to First Aid training for staff on Monday afternoon, there will be nobody in the office on Monday afternoon to answer the phone or pick up emails. If there are any changes to pick up arrangements, please can you make sure the office is informed before lunchtime. Thank you.
Parent Survey
Thank you to all parents and carers who have already completed the questionnaire. There is still time to do so, as it doesn't close until Monday 17 January. All your comments are valuable to us.

MORE Changes to Covid Self Isolation Rules
From Monday 17 January, people who are self-isolating with COVID-19 will have the option to reduce their isolation period after 5 full days if they test negative with a lateral flow device (LFD) test on both day 5 and day 6 and they do not have a temperature. For example, if they test negative on the morning of day 5 and the morning of day 6, they can return to their education or childcare setting immediately on day 6.
The first test must be taken no earlier than day 5 of the self-isolation period, and the second must be taken the following day. All test results should be reported to NHS Test and Trace.
If the result of either of their tests is positive, they should continue to self-isolate until they get negative results from two LFD tests on consecutive days or until they have completed 10 full days of self-isolation, whichever is earliest.
Anyone who is unable to take LFD tests or anyone who continues to have a temperature will need to complete the full 10 day period of self-isolation.
Please check on the school website here for details.

Covid Update
Thank you to parents for wearing face coverings on site again. There are more than 10 children who have not yet returned to school as they have Covid, but no new cases since term started. The Omicron variant is clearly much more contagious, and the symptoms seem to be more 'cold like' rather than the original 3 symptoms. If your child is unwell with upset stomach, headache, sore throat, unusual fatigue please keep them at home and take a lateral flow test. please remember to let the school office know as soon as possible if your child is off school. Thank you.
Hawking Day
Hawking Day is on Friday 14 January. On this day we will be celebrating the life and achievements of Stephen Hawking and also thinking about the importance of science and scientists in our lives.
We are asking children to bring in £1 to donate to the charity Frank Water, chosen by the Year 6 House captains.
Children can wear blue (Hawking House colour) or dress as a scientist who inspires them.
School Lunches
Please remember to order your child's school lunch option on the Aspens website before 9am on the day. There have been quite a few this week who haven't ordered, and Aspens have been very accommodating in making sure that the children still have a lunch. Generally, they cook to order (with a few spares) so if a lunch hasn't been ordered, this can cause problems and result in your child not getting their preference.
We would like to welcome Juliann Fordham who is now the permanent cook for our school.
Catch Up
We have been carefully monitoring and assessing the short and longer term impact of two year's of disrupted schooling. Teachers have been identifying the gaps in learning and adapting their teaching accordingly. However, after our most recent assessments at the end of the Autumn term, it is apparent that across the school, there are key skills, particularly in maths and English grammar that are not as developed as they would normally be, and we are asking for parental support to help with filling these gaps.
From next week, we will be sending home homework books on a Friday, to be returned on the following Wednesday. The tasks in these books will be those that the teacher has assessed needs much more practice. They will tend to be maths fluency (number facts, times tables, calculation practice) and grammar skills. The spellings will also be included in this book, and there may be short writing tasks.
The expectation is that all children do this homework and all books are returned every week and we are grateful for your support in ensuring this is done to your child's best ability. All tasks should be ones your child is familiar with but they need more practice with. If you feel they don't know how to do the tasks, please let their teacher know.
We will be offering a homework club at lunchtime each week for those children who don't return their homework.
The optional homework will still be available on Google Classroom.
Rosewood Class Music
Children in Year 4 have been l earning how to play the glockenspiel. They learnt about the different notes and looked at these on manuscript paper too. They used our knowledge of quavers, crotchets, minims and semibreves from last half term to begin to play some music too.

The arrangements for returning to school after a positive test have now changed. Children may be able to end self-isolation period before the end of the 10 full days by taking an LFD test from 6 days after the day symptoms started (or the day the test was taken if there were no symptoms), and another LFD test on the following day. The second LFD test should be taken at least 24 hours later.
Self-isolation can only end after 2 consecutive negative LFD tests at least 24 hours apart. If both these test results are negative, and you do not have a high temperature, you may end your self-isolation after the second negative test results. We would usually expect a return to school from isolating pupils and staff on day 8 after negative LFT tests on both day 6 and, at least 24 hours later, on day 7.
