Our Facilities
Our Grounds
Bourn Primary Academy is situated on Riddy Lane, in the village of Bourn. Our site is surrounded by fields and bordered by a wide range of trees and shrubs. Our grounds are extensive and there are two large playing fields, one at the front and one at the back of the school buildings.
Bourn Book Bus - Our New Library
In 2021, the school acquired an old, red London bus, which we have now transformed into a fantastic new fiction library. This involved staff, parents, children and local businesses who devoted their time, energy and resources into the project, which is dedicated to the memory of Lyla Blue Glennen, one of our pupils, who sadly died in April 2021.
Sports Facilities
There is a hard standing court for PE lessons and a hard standing playground at the front of the building for Key Stage 1.
We have an outdoor heated swimming pool which is used extensively by all year groups in the summer term. The pool has its own changing rooms.
Nature Reserve
There is a large Nature Reserve in the school grounds, containing a pond, a bird hide and a fire pit. There are areas for den building as well as pathways which wind their way through the area. Children use the Nature Reserve regularly for a wide range of activities.
Class Allotments
In the central area of the school building, there is a courtyard area where we have our allotments. Each class has their own bed and they plant a rage of vegetables and flowers. We also have a greenhouse where seedlings can be nurtured. There is a grass bank nearly, which is left unmown in the summer to grow grasses and wild flowers to attract the bees and butterflies.
EYFS Outdoor Learning Areas
The EYFS Class has access to two outside areas; one just outside the classroom which is used for free flow play, and the ‘Green Grass Area’, which has larger resources, such as tyres, large framed musical instruments and a mud kitchen.
Reflection Garden
We have a Reflection Garden, which is underneath our very large Willow tree. Children and staff often sit here for quiet reflection time, time to talk or to have a whole class story or discussion. Each child has planted spring or autumn bulbs in the Reflection Garden or on the grass bank.
Indoor Learning Environment
The building itself houses seven classrooms, a music room for instrumental lessons, small group rooms, a non-fiction library and a hall, which is also used for indoor PE lessons.
The hall is used for daily collective worship and there is a grand piano which is played in every collective worship. The school orchestra rehearse and play in the hall, which is also used for various concerts throughout the year. It is also used for productions, which take place on a stage area with stage lighting and music. Lunches are cooked on site and are eaten in the hall.
