Bourn Primary is very proud of its extensive musical activities. Our orchestra plays at our Community Assemblies each week, and the Senior Choir meets every Thursday after school.

Music is embedded into the daily life of the school and at the heart of this is our grand piano. Our first piano was donated to the school almost 60 years ago and recently, after much fundraising including a music marathon, playing the piano in the foyer at Microsoft in Cambridge and at the Grand Arcade, and many generous donations, we are very grateful and pleased to be able to have a grand piano in our hall!

From the start of the academic year in Key Stage 2, we are able to offer a variety of lessons for musical instruments, through private tutors coming into the School. These include clarinet, saxophone, piano, flute, drums, violin, guitar and brass instruments. Please contact the School Office for more information.

In the past, amongst the many events our musicians and singers have taken part in, we were pleased to perform at the Cambridge Schools Music Festival, the switching on of the Cambridge Christmas lights,  entertaining visitors at the school’s Christmas Fayre, the International Festival at Comberton Village college, as well as taking a choir to sing at the Royal Albert Hall, the O2 arena, the Diocese of Ely “Songs of God and Science” (more info on the Church Connections page)  and at Kings College in Cambridge.

Of course it’s not just the older children who play music at Bourn Primary. There are lunchtime singing clubs for both KS1 and KS2, and all children in Years 2 and 3 learn to play the recorder.
